Drew Blythe Barrymore was born at 11.05am on February 22nd 1975 in Culver City California, USA.
Daughter of actors Jade and John Barrymore Jr, Drew is the latest edition to the already famous Barrymore family.
Drew began her career at just 11 months old when she appeared in a dog food commercial and followed by her first acting role in the made-for TV movie Suddenly Love in 1978.
She then appeared in her next movie, Altered States when she was 5 and then of course she shot to fame at age 7 in her 1982 role as Gertie in the Steven Spielberg classic E.T.
Drew appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and became the youngest ever host of Saturday Night Live. Following this success, Drew got caught up in the evil Hollywood trap of stardom among the youngest of child stars. Drew was partying all night and abusing drugs and alcohol at the age when most girls were still playing with their Barbie Dolls. A child expected to behave like an adult, she began drinking at age 9, smoking Marijuana at 10 and at 12 took up Cocaine, and a couple of years after that, dropping out of school at age 14.
Critics began writing her off as just another failed child star.
Barely into her teens, Drew made a string of 'forgettable' movies. Because of these roles, Drew was labeled by critics as a 'has been'. However, in the middle of her teens, she entered rehab, cleaned herself up and wrote an autobiography called Little Girl Lost, which mainly exposes her life of drugs, alcohol and childhood stardom.
Even after rehab, the 'wild side' still showed in Drew Barrymore. At 19 she married bartender Jeremy Thomas, then filing for divorce after 2 months in 1994. Drew posed nude on the cover of Interview magazine, flashed David Letterman during an appearance on The Late Show as a birthday present for the host and finally posing nude for Playboy.
From then on her cinematic luck began to change. In 1995 she turned in a solid performance in Boys On The Side, which also starred Whoopi Golberg and Mary-Louise Parker.
More good performances were to follow in movies like her small role in Scream, then in The Wedding Singer alongside Adam Sandler and in Ever After , a version of the Cinderella story, which she reportedly received a very nice $3 million for the project!
Expanding her role from actress to producer, Drew founded her own production company called Flower Films. She got her first credit as Executive Producer in 1999, with the very funny comedy, which she has a lead role, called Never Been Kissed. Continuing to star in a produce such efforts as Charlie's Angels 1 and 2, Donnie Darko and Duplex.
In the summer of 2000, Drew became engaged to Canadian comedian Tom Green, who had a cameo role in Charlie's Angels. After many false wedding rumours, the pair eloped in March 2001. After 6 months, Green filed for divorce in December 2001.
A survivor at heart, Drew Barrymore has moved on with several new films in the works, including Fever Pitch with Jimmy Fallon and Lucky You alongside Eric Bana.
So after the first 30 years the 'Hollywood Princess' has been through the ups and downs of Hollywood stardom. She writes these words in her book Little Girl Lost ....
"Recovery is an ongoing, life long process. Still mine's a happy ending. My goals are simple: to stay sober and to live a good life .... All I can do is the best I can".
